หมายถึง(กฎ) น. องค์กรใหญ่ฝ่ายตุลาการขององค์การสหประชาชาติ ตั้งขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๔๘๙ (ค.ศ. ๑๙๔๖) ที่กรุงเฮก ประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์ สืบต่อจากศาลประจำยุติธรรมระหว่างประเทศของสันนิบาตชาติ (Permanent Court of International Justice) ตามบทบัญญัติต่อท้ายกฎบัตรองค์การสหประชาชาติ มีอำนาจจำกัดเฉพาะการพิจารณาตัดสินคดีแพ่งที่เกิดขึ้นระหว่างประเทศสมาชิกขององค์การสหประชาชาติด้วยกัน ซึ่งประเทศคู่กรณียินยอมให้ศาลเป็นผู้พิจารณาตัดสินเท่านั้น นอกจากนี้ ยังมีหน้าที่ให้คำปรึกษาเกี่ยวกับกรณีพิพาทต่าง ๆ ทางกฎหมายและสนธิสัญญาตามที่สมัชชาใหญ่คณะมนตรีความมั่นคง หรือองค์การชำนัญพิเศษแห่งองค์การสหประชาชาติร้องขอ, เรียกย่อว่า ศาลโลก. (อ. International Court of Justice).
